2010 Rocky Mountain ATV - UTV Jamboree
SEPTEMBER 20-25 AT THE RICHFIELD CITY PARK
|

|
RIDE DESCRIPTIONS
Most of the following rides take place on the Paiute and Great Western trail systems. The staging area within Richfield is shown in parentheses next to the ride name. The description also denotes whether riders will need to trailer to the trail head or leave from Richfield.
Riders will be invited to the Richfield City Park at 7:00 am Tuesday through Friday for a continental breakfast. At 7:30 am, final call announcements will be made requesting that riders begin to make their way to the staging areas at the park or around Richfield where the guides will check in the riders, give some final instructions and begin the ride (or trailering to the trailhead) at 8:30 am.
Please note that rides with 5 or fewer registered riders may be canceled or combined with other rides after September 1, 2010. The Jamboree will make every effort to contact you prior to your arrival to let you know which rides have been combined with other rides or canceled.
Many Jamboree rides require that you be willing and able to transport your own ATV to remote locations. This allows you to see more of southern Utah’s ATV trails and keeps ride groups at a manageable size. Please note that the Jamboree cannot be responsible for daily transportation to these more remote portions of the Paiute & Great Western Trail systems.
All trails/roads used by the Jamboree are understood to be two-way. Even on narrow trails, you may meet someone coming on an ATV from the opposite direction. Watch carefully for oncoming traffic on all roads and trails. Remember the Three K's - Kind, Kourteous & Kareful.
The Jamboree rides will provide direct contact with the elements and place physical demands on both riders and machines. Those with medical conditions or certain other physical limitations should carefully consider those demands. Each rider must be responsible for his/her own health and well-being along the trail. We will never be more than a few hours from the nearest town, but medical assistance is not always available in smaller towns. If you have particular medical or physical limitations, but decide to go anyway, please make your guide aware of your condition.
We emphasize that the ATV trails are not intended for high speed riding but rather for conservative, safe ATV riding. It is necessary that all participants stay with the group, remaining behind the front guide at all times, for the safety and peace of mind of the entire group. ATV’s must be in good mechanical conditions, tuned up and properly jetted for high altitude endurance rides.
Also, please note that unless otherwise stated in the ride description, you will need to provide your own lunch while on the ride.
If the ride description does not indicate that machines that are more than 50 inches wide are permitted, those machines will not be allowed on that ride.

Ride Difficulty Definitions:
Beginner: These rides are almost wholly on dirt roads in the Paiute system. Some of the beginner rides may include short moderately steep sections or switchbacks.
Intermediate: Intermediate rides generally include some road and ATV trail portions with some steep, rough or challenging trails. A ride may also be intermediate in nature due to its length.
Advanced: Advanced rides will generally include portions that are steep, rough, and otherwise difficult to maneuver. In some cases, rides are listed as advanced because of the length of the ride.

#T - ATV Training (Richfield City Park) This Utah State training course will be offered on Saturday, September 18th at 1:00 pm at a location just west of Richfield City. It is highly recommended for all less experienced and "Beginner" riders. What you learn here will be very valuable and improve your safety and enjoyment during the Jamboree. The following safety equipment is required: approved helmet; goggles or face shield; gloves; long sleeved shirt; long pants; over the ankle boots. The Training Course has a capacity of 10 riders.
#1 - Mountain Man Marathon (Richfield City Park - 7:00 PM on Monday Evening) No matter what you’re thinking, the Mountain Man Marathon is not for coon skin caps and black powder rifles. What is it, you ask? It is an exciting ‘marathon’ (endurance run) planned for mountain men (and women), on ATV’s. During this 3 day 3 night adventure (Sponsored by Ridge Runner ATV) we will ride approximately 300 or more miles on the Paiute ATV Trail and portions of the Great Western Trail, camping alongside the trail. This has been one of the most popular events for several years, with the route changing each year to provide new trails and new scenery for those who may have been along before. This ride will challenge your endurance and provide the ultimate ATV adventure for those who feel they can accept the challenge. The trails will be rocky, steep, and narrow. You should be prepared for all kinds of weather and your ATV should be jetted for high altitudes. Trailers and UTV’s will not be allowed on this ride. This ride is rated for “Advanced” riders only!! Suggested equipment list here.
This event is specifically designed for those who would like a ‘primitive adventure’ in the high country. We will have scheduled stops along the way where we can camp for the night, prepare meals, rest and relax, take pictures; view wildlife, colored leaves and breathtaking sunsets, etc. We’re not sure of the exact route yet, but it will be a new route and will be planned out carefully. We will have access to towns along the way to replenish our food and supplies and fill up with gas and drinking water. All meals will be on your own so pack light weight food. The group will leave from the Richfield City Park Monday Sept. 20th at 7:00 PM and will return Thursday afternoon in time for the parade. The Mountain Man Ride allows for 30 riders.
#2 - White Mountain Loop (Ogden’s Parking Lot) This 50 mile ride takes riders to almost 11,000 feet. Starting at about 6,000 feet, the ride works its way up to the beautiful Skyline Drive in Sanpete County before climbing to the top of White Mountain. Once on top, you will be able to admire the view from right at 11,000 feet. From there, the ride goes below the slides, through the swamps and down the Pinchot trail to get back to the staging area. This ride is for “Advanced” riders only and will require that you trailer your quad approximately 40 miles to Mayfield. This ride will be offered on Tuesday and allows for up to 30 riders.
#3 - Flat Canyon (Richfield City Park) Leaving from Richfield, this ride heads south toward Elsinore and turns west into Flat Canyon. This ride is offered on Thursday and will follow the canyon northwest to the top, then proceed back down Dairy Canyon toward Richfield. You’ll see some interesting red rock formations and drainages, and you’ll encounter some very challenging trails. The trip is only approximately 25 miles but because of the terrain, it is rated for “Advanced” riders only. The Flat Canyon ride allows for 30 riders.

#5 - The Challenge (Richfield City Park) This ride is offered on both Thursday and Friday. The ride then travels north through a dry wash and then down into Cottonwood Canyon where riders will be challenged by steep grades, and some side hill riding. After moving west again, the ride moves up to the Cottonwood Rim where riders will have an opportunity to see and photograph some of Utah’s famous red rock. The ride then travels through a series of switchbacks on its way back to the main 01 on the Paiute system. The ride then speeds up as riders travel down the 01 and the 04 turning off for the final challenging leg of the ride down Dairy Canyon, then back to Richfield. This ride is approximately 35 miles and requires your attention all the way. "Advanced" riders only please. The Challenge ride has a capacity of 20 riders.

The exact locations will be determined by the Forest Service, BLM and the Paiute ATV Trail and Jamboree Committee and work will be under the direction of land management agencies. Participants will leave from Richfield and ride their ATV’s to the site where shovels, rakes, axes and other appropriate equipment will be trucked in for your use. Because of its lower elevation, this ride is perfect for days when inclement weather make the higher country uncomfortable. The ride winds its way down to Hoover’s Café in time for pie and ice cream (prices are reasonable and the servings are larger than most can handle).
